According to experts, many wedding venues are now considering adding some eco-chic to their weddings by providing environmentally friendly options.

Rivervale Barn has been designed with the environment in mind, which is good news for couples who are hoping to make their wedding a little greener without sacrificing the style and extravagance their special day deserves.

Kate Haines from Greenfinder, and one of the organisers of the Eco Chic Wedding and Home Show 2009, states that some venues are beginning to consider sourcing vegetarian and local food for their menus.

Speaking to TODAYshow.com, Miyrea Navarro, a New York Times staff writer and author of Green Wedding: Planning Your Eco-Friendly Celebration, also suggested that using locally produced food is one way for couples to cut down on their carbon emissions on their big day.

The Catering and Events Team at Rivervale Barn, Galloping Gourmet, supports local seasonal produce to create great food with a lower carbon footprint. With so many things to think about when planning a wedding, many couples will be pleased to discover this aspect of their wedding has already been taken care of.

Experts say venues are also thinking about their energy usage and whether they would be able to use biodegradable decorations for any couples hiring the venue for their wedding. Ms Haines said, "If they can get local flowers that are in season using these to decorate the venue can be a nice touch".

Further suggestions to up the "green factor" of a wedding include sourcing recycled paper invitations, which are often handmade and add an individual touch to the occasion, or choosing a vintage wedding dress.

Ideas like these are great for couples looking for extra ways to be kind to the planet. As well as reducing carbon emissions they could help create a more unique and memorable day.
